Glaze Porcelain

Porcelain Tiles and cleaning advice
Porcelain tiles are an ideal choice for floor tiles and have been for some years, they are durable, hard wearing and come in a wide range of colours, styles and designs. Porcelain Tiles are also extremely easy to maintain and they make great additions to both kitchens and bathroom floors.
Porcelain tiles are also reasonably priced and are relatively easy to install, they also come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes which will add a real unique design to both your kitchens and bathrooms.
There are different types of porcelain; polished, unglazed and glazed, glazed porcelain is probably the most common and popular porcelain tile. The glazed is non porous and can be of the polished variety but if installed on bathrooms and kitchen floors will almost certainly need sealing to protect it from moisture levels. Glazed porcelain is extremely durable and stain resistant which makes them the most popular tile for the home.
Semi polished porcelain tiles will also need sealing if they are installed in bathrooms and kitchens, they are also available in a wide range of colours and styles. The matte variety of porcelain undergoes fewer processes than the glazed and polished and generally is a tile that will not require any sealing.
The polished variety of tile is the tile that will require sealing but it is always best to ask the manufacturer which sealant is better to use for what type of porcelain tiles you have and manufacturers will know exactly which sealant variety is required.
Cleaning porcelain tiles is easy and they are generally an easy tile to maintain, again depending on what type of tile you choose will determine the type of cleaner that is most suitable. Avoiding bleach products is always best when it comes to tiles as this can damage the appearance of some tiles and there are many mild cleaning products on the market that will be more suitable for your porcelain tiles. The polished variety of Tiles probably needs the most care as the glaze on the tile can be damaged if you use harsh cleaning substances. Polished tiles should be swept clear of dirt initially and then a mild cleaning solution can be used and then towelled dry.
The same cleaning rules will apply to unpolished tiles and again avoiding bleach or harsh chemicals is a must. Textured porcelain tiles can accumulate more dirt as they have the ability to harbour dust and dirt more easily and more time needs to be taken in sweeping the tile to remove any dirt before applying a cleaning solution.Tile choice offer a wide variety of Tile

Glaze $15.98 Having secured a reputation as a haunt for the more beguiling producers of the world, with their back catalog stacked to the gills with audio curiosities, Berlin’s Crippled Dick label climbed a few rungs down the left-field ladder with the deep house musings from siblings Beni and Christoph Reimann. This climb-down is thankfully not echoed by any letup in quality, with the ebullient electrickery of the latter loaded with the organic contributions of his brother, a combination that placed the release of their eponymous debut in 1999 in among noted heavyweights of jazz and electronic fusion such as Matthew Herbert. And so it is that their accomplished vibraphonics and the tinkling key work of this long-overdue follow-up, further embellished by Burkhard Finckh’s rich trumpet, the guitar of Nikolas Tillmann, and the contributions of vocalists Selda Kaya and Nadja Dehn, added further esteem to an already enviable reputation. “Emmentaler Swing,” a well-paced ode to the contents of the Reimanns’ refrigerator, takes its place as a highlight. ~ Kingsley Marshall, Rovi Performers: Christoph Reimann – Electronics, Percussion, Keyboards; Beni Reimann – Fender Rhodes, Vibraphone, Percussion; Burkhard Finckh – Trumpet; Frank Rosenau – Piano; Ingo Toelpe – Bass; Nadja Dehn – Vocals; Nikolas Tillmann – Guitar; Selda Kaya – Vocals |

Porcelain $8.74 And upon the Great Schism, they were polarized. As Sparta moved determinedly toward marketability, their brothers in the Mars Volta moved decidedly away from it. Not surprising, given the motives that exploded the Drive-In. But as Wiretap Scars proved, Sparta’s discovery of a viable alt.metal niche didn’t cost them their caustic intellectualism. Quite the opposite — it focused the flame. In turn, Porcelain shatters the notion that musical thoughtfulness needs to include weeping and flügelhorns, or for that matter jarring time shifts and whispers to a scream. These elements appear in their own way throughout — Jim Ward, Tony Hajjar, Paul Hinojos, and Matt Miller make some momentous noise, and Ward’s odd timbre bleeds sincerity. But — amazingly, ’cause they’re on Geffen — their fibrous grooves, dense watercolors, and peels of shattering guitar arrive unencumbered by label-side meddling, or even the unspoken demands of a cliquey music-fan nation. Porcelain is pure consciousness raising, at once its own powerful statement and a directive straight from the Sparta brain trust to seek out Quicksand and Shudder to Think, to find the soul of Braid, and not just nod heads to its followers. This isn’t an indictment of the emo or post-hardcore establishments. But there’s just no getting around how much stronger Sparta are than so many of their peers. “End Moraine” teeters on a wire between its tense, busy guitar line and muscular rhythm section as Ward wails himself raw about historical revisionism (Whose? The country’s? The band’s own? Unclear.) “Guns of Memorial Park” and “Hiss the Villain” fill their multiple angles with roars worthy of Ian MacKaye and intercut strata of angular lead guitar; it’s a framework that continues throughout Porcelain, though it never grows tiresome thanks to an ear for pace and meticulous variation. “Lines in the Sand” flattens those arcs and spikes into a gentle slope, and its faraway strings work effectively as valid supporters, not vanity add-ons. “Death in the Family” suggests the martial passion of vintage U2 before fading into the instrumental “Syncope,” which is like hearing a guitarist play solo in the stillness of a morgue. The brief piece is also a bridge to the epic “From Now to Never.” At nearly nine minutes, it renders each facet of Porcelain in perfect miniature, and emphasizes Sparta’s stance as a group working faithfully within the system, but also staunchly and refreshingly outside of it. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi Performers: Dan Smith – Cello; Larry Corbett – Cello; Matt Funes – Viola; Charlie Bisharat – Violin; Joel Derou |

Benjarong porcelain jar, ‘Flower Art’ (Thailand) $114.95 Breathtaking gold accents mysterious black flowers that dance across the contours of this delicate, white porcelain Benjarong jar and pedestal by Khun Santiparp. Benjarong takes its name from the Sanskrit words panch and rang, which means “five colors.” It refers to the traditional style of hand-painted Thai porcelain. Red, yellow, white, green, and blue are the most frequently used colors; however, some pieces contain as many as eight colors. In the 1300s, during the Ming Dynasty, the Kings of Thailand ordered Benjarong from Chinese potters. But in the early 1800s, during the reign of King Rama II, Thai artisans began producing Benjarong for the Royal Court with a slight variation, which they named Lai Nam Thong, or “gold washed design.” This technique requires outlining the decoration with bright, liquid gold. The popularity of Benjarong increased with the rise of a wealthy merchant and aristocratic elite, although these wares later became reasonably affordable. Khun Santiparp describes his creative process: “Firstly, I knead a mixture of kaolin [white clay mixed with feldspar and quartz] and 40% bone ashes. After having thrown it on the wheel and formed it, I let it fully dry and fire it for five to six hours. After that, I glaze it with a mixture of burnt lime, wood ashes, and secret natural materials of my own. The piece is then fired again in the kiln. When totally cooled, I over-glaze the piece with gild and enamel painting. I draw the entire surface by hand, one color at a time. The shapes and motifs are gentle, graceful, and humbly crafted after Oriental styles.” Care instructions: These pieces will shine forever and require only a damp cloth to wipe away dust. Benjarong is not dishwasher safe. If cleaning is needed, use a gentle dish soap and soft sponge. Never use abrasive pads or scouring agents. For decorative purposes only. |

Benjarong porcelain urn, ‘Colorful Khod’ (Thailand) $252.95 Exotic flowers blossom in a feast of color, their petals opening in celebration of life-lived, adorning this extraordinary urn. The blooms decorate the sky blue background in joyful form, for ancient Thai custom would have the ashes of a dearly departed deposited in a similar khod (urn or casket). The khod would then be placed upon the home’s altar to inspire devoted prayer. Khun Santiparp masterfully creates this piece, resplendent in Benjarong porcelain excellence. Benjarong takes its name from the Sanskrit words panch and rang, meaning “five colors” which frequently include red, yellow, white, green, and blue. It originated in China, and came to Thailand as part of the dowry of Chinese princesses. It soon found favor by Thai aristocrats and the wealthy by the 1300s, during the Ming Dynasty, the Kings of Thailand ordered Benjarong from Chinese potters. Eventually, in the early 1800′s, during the reign of King Rama II, Thai artisans began producing Benjarong for the Royal Court with a slight variation, which they named lai nam thong (gold washed design) whereupon bright, liquid gold was used to outline the admirable patterns that would grace the Benjarong porcelain pieces. The popularity of Benjarong increased with the rise of a wealthy merchant and aristocratic elite, and eventually these wares became reasonably affordable. “First, I knead a mixture of kaolin [white clay mixed with feldspar and quartz] and 40% bone ashes,” Santiparp explains. “After hand-shaping the desired piece on the wheel, I let it dry completely before firing it for five to six hours at 800C. Then I glaze it with a mixture of burnt lime, wood ashes, and other secret natural materials of my own. This time I fire the piece at 1,280 C, for twelve to thirteen and when totally cooled, I over-glaze the piece with gild and enamel painting. I draw the entire surface by hand, one color at a time. The shapes and motifs are gentle, graceful, and humbly crafted after Oriental styles. I fire the piece a third time in the kiln for five to six hours at 700C to 800C. Nowadays I use modern electric kilns to fire a few pieces every day since the temperature can be controlled which in turn results in fewer misfires.” Each piece is stamped with evidence of origin prior to the last firing, featuring the Pan and Peace logo identifying Santiparps family workshop. Clean with a damp, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive solutions. Benjarong porcelain is not dishwasher safe. |

Benjarong porcelain urn, ‘White Khod’ (Thailand) $197.95 Elegance richly detailed in gold makes this Thai urn an extraordinary tribute to spiritual traditions. Imbued with solemn yet exuberant artistry, this khod (urn or casket) is fashioned after those intended for the safeguarding of a beloved’s ashes to be placed upon the home’s altar to inspire devoted prayer. Benjarong takes its name from the Sanskrit words panch and rang, meaning “five colors” which frequently include red, yellow, white, green, and blue. It originated in China, and came to Thailand as part of the dowry of Chinese princesses.
